Project of the week - a virtual visit on the wooden architecture route

17 / 06 / 2021
Category: Programme News

The picturesque Carpathian Mountains. The beauty of the landscape is complemented by historic wooden temples. The project partners - the Podkarpackie Regional Tourism Board and the Association of self-governments "Euroregion Carpathians - Ukraine"- decided to take care of the proper promotion of this unique area.

The WoodenRoute project – “Cross-border Wooden Architecture Route as a chance to preserve the unique cultural heritage of Polish-Ukrainian borderland” started at the end of 2019 with meetings during which the partners summarised the heritage of wooden architecture in the Polish-Ukrainian borderland and discussed the Polish partner's experience in creating routes connecting its objects. Promotional activities were also planned to encourage tourists to actively visit the Carpathians. The Podkarpackie Regional Tourist Board has modernised its existing website, which until now has presented the wooden architecture routes in an unattractive way. The website https://sad.podkarpackie.travel/  has been supplemented with new, interesting content and photos of the wooden pearls of the Podkarpackie heritage. The presented routes include architectural monuments - lovely churches, beautiful Orthodox churches, wooden villas, and ethnographic parks.

Based on the experience of its Polish partner, the Association of self-governments "Euroregion Carpathians - Ukraine" is creating a similar website in Ukrainian, Polish and English. The website is currently being supplemented with content, but we already invite you to visit www.woodenroute.ekarpaty.com and get inspired for unforgettable trips.

In order to further encourage people to discover these pretty sites and, literally, open them up to those who cannot visit them, the partners enabled virtual tours of selected wooden temples, 4 on the Polish side and 8 on the Ukrainian one. Without leaving home, you can visit the following objects:

1. on the Polish side:

2. on the Ukrainian side:

Soon, as part of the promotion of the Cross-border Wooden Architecture Route, a series of free events will be organised on the Polish side, during which it will be possible to visit selected sites with a guide and listen to concerts of early music. The events will provide an excellent opportunity to learn about the most valuable monuments of Podkarpacie, which are wooden temples, including those inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. As part of the events, we invite you to visit:
