On 2-3th September, we participated in the 5th Local Development Forum in Truskavets (Ukraine). The Forum gathered nearly 300 participants, including the representatives of local self-governments and regional authorities from Ukraine and neighboring countries.
Within the Forum, we organized the ‘Cross-border Space’ where everyone could learn about the possibilities of cross-border cooperation and where the Programme presentations and discussion panels took place during the first day. Experts from the Lviv Branch Office and JTS presented the achievements of the current Programme and shared their experiences. Participants also had the opportunity to learn about the main objectives of the upcoming 2021-2027 Programme and discuss their project ideas during thematic discussions. About 100 people attended the ‘Cross-border Space’ and demonstrated great interest in the Programme.
On the second day of the Forum, we presented the PBU’s prospects for the future during the discussion panel “Sources of financing for the development of communities and territories”, in which representatives of various institutions spoke about the possibilities of funding local projects.
For our Programme, the Forum has become a platform for networking and discussing new ideas, helping to find effective solutions to problems at the local and regional levels. The latter is crucial in light of recent decentralization processes in Ukraine, which lead to the growing importance of local players. Vasyl Lozynskyy, the Vice Minister of Development of Communities and Territories, said: "Our objective is to achieve a balance of responsibilities between local self-governments and state authorities, as we will not succeed acting separately”.
