Project description

In recent years, the intensity of contacts between Poland and Ukraine has increased significantly, but they focus mainly on economic, not cognitive and educational reasons. Meanwhile, the geographical situation, the similarity of cultures and languages can serve creation of positive neighbourly relations.  Another problem is the fact that nowadays, real live folklore is associated with something outdated and requires a lot of work on a common culture, especially in terms of tradition and awareness of roots.

The FolkArt project will concentrate on building closeness between both nations, creating a positive image of their neighbours, facilitating access to information and integration, as well as promoting old Carpathian traditions. The central point of the project will be the Carpathian FolkArt Festival (2 days in Poland and 1 day in Ukraine) – a spectacular event including concerts and lectures presenting cultural heritage of the Polish-Ukrainian borderland. It will take place in locations connected with historical heritage of both regions, such as historical parks. During the festival, handicraft workshops will be conducted by both Polish and Ukrainian craftsmen. All these activities will be supported by a promotional campaign including the production of 3 short films that will be presented on social media, the purchase of a well-equipped Mobile Tourist Information Point, which will be used also after the project is completed, the development of a tourist map and preparation of special promotional gadgets.

The FolkArt project will help to establish cross-border cooperation for common promotion and restoration of Carpathian culture and strengthening cultural ties. This, in turn, will have a positively affect the image and tourist attractiveness of the area, as well as economic activation of local communities.
