Project description

The Polish-Ukrainian borderland is an extremely valuable cultural area. At the same time, it faces a number of problems, such as the lack of innovative approach towards the promotion of heritage. Activities aimed at promotion are uncoordinated. Also, the inhabitants have poor knowledge about their legacy and finally, the potential behind the cultural diversity of Polish and Ukrainian towns as a possibility for cross-border cooperation is undiscovered. These issues, in turn, generate problems in the social sphere, like unemployment and migrations of young people.

The HISTrenght project solves these problems by creating a new cultural offer for residents and tourists by increasing the level of integration between communities of Lesko (PL) and Khust (UA). Within the project, a photo exhibition is planned which will show, how the town of Lesko looked like before and right after World War II. Additionally, a mural depicting the legendary characters of Lesko: Piotr Kmita and the Black Lady will be created. The cultural and historical walking path in Lesko will be designed, marked and equipped in a way to learn about the most important and exciting places. To promote the Carpathian heritage of both regions, the Transcarpathian Fair in Lesko and the Khust Medieval and Blacksmith Fair will be organized with additional attractions related to local traditions, music, craft and cuisine. The conference and exhibition on cultural and historical heritage in Khust will be the final activity.

The inhabitants, tourists, craftsmen and entrepreneurs will be the final beneficiaries of the project. As a result of the project implementation, partners will introduce new tourist products – the historical fairs. It is planned that fairs and other various activities (workshops, cultural events, symposia, conferences) will be organized every year. All activities enable partners to exchange expertise and ideas. This way they will build strong links in the future.
