Project description

The project Suwalki4UA addresses migratory challenges, which resulted from the Russian military aggression against Ukraine. It was designed to assist Ukrainian refugees who found shelter in Suwalki subregion to adapt to new situation and integrate into local communities.

The projects activities were based on the needs reported by the refugees and consulted with the Union of Ukrainians in Suwalki. First of all, the series of integration workshops were held for different age groups. For instance, health group (rehabilitation/fitness classes) and dance classes were organized for adults. Teenagers (13-18 years old) participated in board games club and discussion club together with their Polish peers. Toddlers (2-6 years old) had multisensory and dance classes. Another important issue addressed by the project was finding a job in Poland. The activities included psychological counselling, professional (vocational) counselling, language classes, computer classes for business and training in active job search. Finally, Information point for Ukrainian refugees opened within the project providing information and support, for instance, assistance in filling our official documents etc. In total, almost 200 people participated in the project activities.

The project was an initial step to integrate Ukrainian refugees into local communities. It will have lasting effects as the project teams is eager to build on its outcomes and share the best practices with other institutions.
