Project description

The potential of cultural heritage, local crafts and historical infrastructure in the Polish-Ukrainian borderland is not fully used. The insufficient level of awareness of the region’s potential and the lack of coordinated promotion have a direct negative impact on tourist traffic in the regions.

The FIRE project team decided to change this by using cultural heritage and human resources to create new and attractive tourism products. The project is inspired by the fire as the driving force of modern civilization, but the Beneficiaries want to break up with the negative connotation of the fire and emphasize its creative power. Historical and cultural festivals are planned to be organized in the 15th-century ruins of the Kuropatwa Castle in Nadvirna and the 18th-century monastery in Zagórz. The festival in Zagórz will host such attractions as military fights, knight and archery tournaments, historical games and plays, lectures on military and historical topics, fire shows and horse riding. There will be also thematic stands presenting traditional professions, such as blacksmithing, shoemaking, tailoring and armour making. On the other hand, at the ethno-festival in Nadvirna, there will be a choreographic reconstruction with torches, a knight-archery tournament, cavalry duels, games related to history, medieval cuisine, craft shows, photography exhibitions and historical literature reading, and finally the promotion of local products. All these activities will be supported by a wide promotional campaign encouraging tourists and residents to visit these attractive places. The main project activities will also focus on the promotion of monuments and the potential of local artists from the cities of Zagórz (PL) and Nadvirna (UA).

The FIRE project will encourage the inhabitants of Zagórz and Nadvirna to learn more about the history and traditions of their small homelands. Finally, in the longer perspective, the project will increase the attractiveness and tourism flow and mutual relationships between cities will be developed through investment in culture.
